Flagstaff- The Native American Contemporary Art Exhibit, presented by Flagstaff Cultural Partners, highlights the creativity of local and regional artists.  A stunning display of traditional and contemporary Native American arts will be on exhibit at the Coconino Center for the Arts, June 1st through July 31st.  This annual exhibit features paintings, jewelry, ceramics, beadwork, and photography from leading and emerging Native American artists throughout the Southwest.

Some of the featured artists include nationally acclaimed artists such as painters Shonto Begay and Baje Whitethorne, Sr. and silversmith, Robert Lomadafkie. The Native American Art Exhibit provides viewers a modern link to current concepts being explored in Native American art with equal emphasis on aesthetics.

The traditional artwork of the native people of the American Southwest has long since been of interest in to art patrons. The Native American Art Exhibit at the Coconino Center for the Arts will exhibit both traditional work as well as contemporary fine art. Many Navajo, Hopi and other four corners region artists continue to convey ideas similar to those in the work of their ancestors, often drawing inspiration from the southwest landscape or current topics, while using contemporary media to do so. Such, this exhibit will feature a paintings and photographs in addition to traditional media associated with Native American arts.

The Public is invited to a free opening reception for the exhibit at the Coconino Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 29th from 6pm – 8pm. Coconino Center for the Arts is located at 2300 N. Fort Valley Road in Flagstaff, AZ. The gallery will be open to see the exhibit Tuesday – Saturday, 11am – 5pm. Admission is free.
